Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle discusses his three-tier plan to relieve
drought gripping North Georgia
11/19/07
Yes, there are other issues besides the Florida mussels surrounding this water
release problem; however, look at the following photos and follow Dusty Duck's
editorial comments.

Lake Lanier now has beaches galore!
The ongoing effects of Georgia's historic drought are seen in the rapidly receding water
and expansion of the sandy shoreline in this Nov. 15 photo.

   Tidwell Park and Boat Ramp
                Forsyth County on
                 Pilgrim Mill Road

Last Ramp Still Operating
Very crowded on Nov. 21 since this is the last ramp still in operation at the lake -- and one of the two ramps here are closed.

Above: Boats are lined up to access the one ramp. The lonely loading dock is easily 20
feet away from the lake. Prior to the severe drought and the continued excessive release
of water this dock extended into the lake.

Extensive sand bars and receding waters can be viewed for miles at Tidwell Park.
All of this white sand was once under water.

Dusty ducks are singing the blues!

 Shoal Creek Boat
 Ramp
will be shut
 down
on Wed.
 morning, 11/21/07. It
 was one of only two
 boat ramps still in
 operation. The other
 one is at Tidwell Park.
 A traffic jam occurred
 late Tuesday after-
 noon at Shoal Creek
 with trucks and boat
 trailers waiting in line
 to use the last work-
 ing ramp in the
 area.

Above:  Loading dock is now over 15 ft. from water's edge. A Park
Ranger was present to help with the excessive boat loading traffic.
There was not a vacant parking spot when I arrived. We have lived
here for 14 years and have never seen this much traffic at the boat
   ramp area.

Above Second photo: This private dock was once in the water. This is the area where we live, and our property values are suffering while sales are at a dismal low.  Many thanks to the liberal environmentalist wackos who place more value on the mussels down in Florida than the human beings up here who are suffering.  When was the last time that you ate a Florida mussel?? I cannot remember ever even seeing one, and I was born and grew up in Florida.

Below: Buford, Hall county - The 2007 drought has closed off all boat ramps at Lake Lanier except this one and Tidwell. This loading dock at Shoal Creek boat ramp is more than 15 feet from the water's edge.

Above photos 2 and 3: Scenes from the lake side of Buford Dam -- looking at the lake water entering the dam.

Above first photo -- water flowing into Chattahoochee River just below dam. Cars passing over
Dam Road. Passengers cannot believe what they are seeing!

"Please stop releasing our water!"

Left: Shoreline of lake as seen from drive over Buford Dam Road. Soon this will be called the Beach at Lake Lanier. Lake related businesses including the Buford Dam Store in Gwinnett County and many marinas are suffering and closing down. Is it really worth all of this to save the mussels in Florida? Daily news warns us to conserve water in our homes and businesses since we may be running out in a few months.

                     Please feed the ducks!

Below: Scenes from Thompson Creek Park in Dawsonville, GA

Thompson Creek Park has a huge sandbar in the middle of the lake. It is so high and dry
that it would be possible to walk on dry land to the opposite side of the lake.

lost and dazed.

in the dry sand which was previously
covered with water.

Seems that I could hear  Dusty Duck saying,
" Why are they taking all of my water for those ugly
nasty mussels way down in Florida. We are
a lot prettier and more lovable than they are."

Scenes along Holiday Road at Lanier Islands
Hall County 11/18/07

Lanier Magical
Nights of Light

"How Dry I Am!"

Above are scenes at Holiday Marina and the area across the street from the Marina.  All of this area is down by about 17 feet from normal. The marina businesses along this road are really hurting. However, that does not seem to matter as long as the precious mussels down in Florida receive all of our water that they need.
